Injured CM Punk away from AEW after World Championship win

CM Punk was forced to part ways as AEW world champion just days after he won

A red-eyed and emotional punk announced on Friday night on the "rampage" of All Elite Wrestling that he was injured and that he must give up the title he won in Sunday's double or nothing pay-per-view

An interim champion will be crowned on June 26 at the Forbidden Door Pay-Per-View

A war royal will open next week's "AEW Dynamite" and the winner will face John Moxley in the main event to earn a spot in the match at The Forbidden Door against another challenger

"The bad news is that I'm injured and I need surgery," Punk said. "Some things have been broken, the biggest is my heart because I love to perform in front of you all and I wanted to go on one hell of a run

The 43-year-old Punk just won the championship - his first world title since 2013 - by defeating "hangman" Adam Page in a double or nothing in Las Vegas

He was set to face New Japan Pro Wrestling Star Hiroshi Tanahashi for the AEW Championship at the company's first joint pay-per-view, "Forbidden Door," at the United Center in his hometown Chicago.

Punk though sees the injury as a setback from which he will make a comeback. Punk said he was ready to give up the title, but AEW chairman Tony Khan did not want to

"I told you I was leaving until the wheels fell." The wheels are still there they haven't fallen," Punk said

"It's just that one of them was broken. I've felt better than I did today

But I'm here to tell you that I've also felt so bad the hell. It's a bump in the road. It is sad. It hurt like hell. I want to wrestle for you right now

In his first appearance as champion earlier this week on dynamite, Punk can be seen limping after his tag team match with FTR against Max Caster

and gun club and later when he came out to face MJF in the fans' videos after the cameras stopped rolling. Fightful reported that Punk was dealing with a leg injury
