'Several active shooters' killed 3 people and injured 11 others in the popular Philadelphia area

A bustling recreation district turned into a scene of the massacre when several shooters opened fire in Philadelphia's South Street area, killing at least three people and wounding 11 others, police said

Officers patrolling the South Street area heard gunfire and "saw several active shooters shooting in the crowd," Philadelphia Police Inspector DF Paes said

Philadelphia Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw told a news conference on Sunday that the shooting began at around 11:31 a.m. on Saturday.m

Officers stationed on South Street "saw many civilians suffering from gunshot wounds, lying on the pavement and on the street

After this, the authorities started first aid to the injured

The outlaw said five guns were used by the shooters after a possible "physical altercation"

A gunman was shot and wounded, but the police had survived

He said; Another suspected gunman, who may have been involved in the physical altercation, is likely to be one of the three people killed

According to Paes, two handguns were recovered at the spot

"At this point, we don't know if the quarrel that took place was between a group of individuals, or if it was linked to another group or affiliation," said the robber

An officer who saw a man firing a handgun in a large crowd pulled his weapon and fired "several times in the direction of the unidentified male, we believe to kill him," the robber said
